What is fine furniture?

The convergence of furniture, design and art has been pronounced in the 20th century, with the advent of the Studio Furniture movement in the late 1940's.  Wharton Eshrick, Sam Maloof, Walker Weed, and some of the earlier artists who worked in wood when there was no ability to sell or even recognize the artform deserve much credit for perservering.

Much the same occurred in the 1700's, with the Goddards and Townsends developing the styles and designs which were their equivalent of Studio Furniture.

Fine Furniture is timeless.  It has a design aesthetic that takes it beyond the current fashion trends.  It has a presence in a room.  Properly executed, it has a "take your breath away" impact on those who encounter it for the first time.  It may be a reproduction of a recognized masterwork or it might be a new departure from the established norms.

What we do:

We make period reproductions and studio furniture for institutions and individuals.

We are committed to making furniture that will still be appreciated 200 years from now.
